Arthaus Musik

Arthaus Musik was founded in Munich in March 2000 and, since 2007, has its company headquarters in Halle (Saale), the birthplace of Georg Friedrich Händel.

The pioneer label for classical music on DVD has been publishing prolific recordings of operas, ballets, classical concerts, jazz programs and theatre as well as select documentaries about music and art for over 20 years now. With up to 100 new publications per year, more than 1000 titles are out on DVD and Blu-ray up to now. This means that Arthaus Musik has the worldwide most extensive catalogue of audio-visual music and art productions and, since the founding of the label, has become one of the internationally leading providers in this segment of the Home Entertainment market.

In many exemplary recordings, the greatest artists of our time as well as from days bygone, can not only be heard but also be seen. The catalogue includes recordings with Plácido Domingo, Cecilia Bartoli, Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Callas, Jonas Kaufmann, Elīna Garanča; with conductors like Carlos Kleiber, Claudio Abbado, Nicholas Harnoncourt, Lorin Maazel, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta; from opera-houses like the Milan Scala, the Viennese State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Opéra National de Paris and the Zurich Opera House.

Numerous publications of the label have won international awards, such as the Academy Award-winning animation film "Peter & the Wolf“ by Suzie Templeton, the elaborately produced "Walter Felsenstein Edition" and the opera "Dido and Aeneas“, choreographed by Sasha Waltz - both of the latter were awarded the German Record Critics Prize. The prestigious Midem Classical Award, among others, went to the documentations "Herbert von Karajan - Maestro for the Screen“ by Georg Wübbolt and "Celibidache - You don't do anything, you let it evolve" by Jan Schmidt-Garre. The documentary "Carlos Kleiber - Traces to nowhere“ by Eric Schulz was an ECHO Klassik 2011 winner.

Its subsidiary, Monarda Arts, means that Arthaus Musik has a rights library for DVD, TV and Online use, comprising approx. 900 different productions. Since 2007, the enterprise has been growing continuously in the segment of in-house production, with recordings of operas, concerts, ballets and the production of art and music documentations.

Arthaus Musik DVDs and Blu-ray Discs are available worldwide through an efficient distribution network, among others in cooperation with established stationary and online-retailers, the german book wholesalers of the book trade as well as experienced distribution partners all over the world.
