The Teatro alla Scala in Milan is renowned for its lavish opera productions with first-rate ensembles and internationally established soloists. Arthaus Musik has compiled three outstanding classics in this exclusive DVD box set. Giorgio Strehler ranked among Europe’s most distinguished stage directors and was engaged as opera director by all the major opera houses of the world. His legendary production of Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” is now available in a recording of 2006 with the terrific Diana Damrau and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo. After its world premiere in 1835 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Gaetano Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” soon fell into oblivion, only to be rediscovered in 1958. Several top performers rose to the vocal and acting challenges of the main roles: Mariella Devia and Anna Caterina Antonacci now continue the line in this 2008 production by Pier Luigi Pizzi. In 2010 “Simon Boccanegra” was mounted at the Milan Scala under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim. For this production stage director Federico Tiezzi was blessed with notable singers such as Plácido Domingo, Anja Harteros und Ferruccio Furlanetto.
