Conductor:

Director:
Martin Kuej
Another groundbreaking production from the Opera Zurich – Elektra staged by Martin Kuej, which received enthusiastic reviews when premiered in 2003. Under the direction of one of the best Strauss conductors of today, Christoph von Dohnányi, and with a cast of particularly strong singer-actors, this sweeping view of a radical work makes for a powerful visual and musical impression on DVD. Thus the female roles are of particular importance and the singers in this production are particularly well suited to their roles. Eva Johansson is Elektra, Marjana Lipovek is her murderous mother and Melanie Diener embodies the much more practical sister Chrysothemis – the antithesis of her long-suffering, loyal sister.

Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Verdis Ernani is a vibrant adaptation for the lyric stage of one of the most flamboyant dramas by the French poet. Both the composer and his librettist have combined Hugos verbal eloquence with the right musical temperament. Perfect example of Grand opera with chorus, the magnificent Act III is above all the first time Verdi draws the very(...)
