Giovanni Gabrieli: 3 Sacrae Symphoniae Joseph Haydn: Missa in Tempore Belli Giuseppe Verdi: Quattro Pezzi Sacri The season 2005/06 marks the end of an era at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. It is Zubin Mehta’s last as Music Director. In this live recording of his inaugural concert at the National Theatre in Munich in 1998, Zubin directs a group of soloists and the Bavarian state Opera Chorus and Orchestra in a programme of sacred music dating from three different periods, which showcases him once again as an ardent admirer of Verdi, living up to his conviction that “You can’t grow up without Verdi!” This DVD refers to one of the most famous conductors of our days and is an homage to his devotion for the Bavarian State Opera.
