MARTHA ARGERICH & FRIENDS
1982

Soloists:
Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, Nicolas Economou, Mischa Maisky

Martha Argerich is doubtless one of the most brilliant and vivacious pianists of our time. Her interpretations of works by Chopin, Liszt or Rachmaninov are legendary and set standards until this day. This recording from the Münchner Klaviersommer 1982 is a rarity due to the altogether quite limited number of Argerich’s public appearances. Here she plays pieces by Mozart, Chopin, Ravel, Rachmaninov and Schumann, together with her piano partners Nelson Freire and Nicolas Economou as well as cellist Mischa Maisky. It is very evident in this concert that Martha Argerich frequently, and with great pleasure, played with her duett-partners Nelson Freire and Mischa Maisky, and likewise the in 1993 fatally injured Nicolas Economou. Harmonious interaction and impressive virtuosity, demonstrated by all four artists, make this an unforgettable musical experience.

He created works whose impact on the development of several genres in terms of formal structures can hardly be matched in(...)
