Famous arias from VERDI, DONIZETTI, ROSSINI, BELLINI, PUCCINI, WAGNER, FLOTOW, LEONCAVALLO, BORODIN, MUSSORGSKY This programme is not only a recording of an opera gala with an all-star cast. It is a historical document of a concert evening, which brings together eleven of the greatest opera-voices, with a superb programme of famous arias from Italian, Russian and German operas performed in one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious opera houses – Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. The evening is hosted by no less than the Spanish star tenor José Carreras. It doesn’t make a difference if it’s Lucia Aliberti singing Vincenzo Bellini’s “Ah se una volta sola” from La Sonnambula, or Alan Titus as Leoncavallo’s Tonio from his masterpiece I pagliacci – the warm and velvet sound of the Bolshoi Theatre fascinates the audience from the first minute to the last moment of this impressive concert. One highlight of the evening is Hermann Preys “Lied an den Abendstern” from Richard Wagner’s “Tannhäuser”. For one moment, time stands still and the audience seems to be lost in the long and sensible legato. Exclusive and for the first time, the complete gala concert, including two rare and extraordinary interpretations of Russian arias from Mussorgsky and Borodin, will be released on DVD by Arthaus Musik.

Just one year after his successful and highly acclaimed comeback at the Vienna State Opera he returned to the same opera stage where he made his brilliant debut in 197, as a thirty-year-old: the Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg. This recital was staged a second time and was also relayed live to a giant screen at the city’s Domplatz – a clear(...)
